I learned something interesting about myself this morning. It is so much harder for me to leave my mom when she is fully “present” and in the moment with me.  When I stop to see her on my way to work I’m never sure what awaits me.  This morning my mom was in the dining room with Smokey as if she was waiting for me.  Arms outstretched, she said, “Oh Diana!” and I rushed to her embrace.  Her big smile, strong hugs and steady eye contact sustain me.

As I leave, I can’t help myself from thinking that maybe this will be the last time she really knows me…
